Kandy

Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings before British colonisation, and remains Sri Lanka's cultural capital. It's home to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred sites in the Buddhist world, believed to house a tooth relic of the Buddha.

Set around a picturesque lake and surrounded by hills, Kandy is also the gateway to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya and hosts the spectacular Esala Perahera festival each year.
